Canadian Kennel Club Approves Newly Proposed Standard

Below is the announcement I posted on the Kuvasz Club of Canada Facebook page on March 24, 2020.

ANNOUNCEMENT RE: STANDARD

I am thrilled to announce that the proposed standard put forth by the Kuvasz Club of Canada was finally approved at the March meeting of the CKC Board of Directors and will be implemented effective July 1, 2020. Implementing a standard that is 90+% the same as the FCI/Hungarian standard is a much overdue and huge victory for our breed here in Canada, as we will be inline with the international standard which will make international collaboration with other breeders and clubs much easier.

I would like to personally as well as in the name of the Executive of the Kuvasz Club of Canada thank each and every single one of you who took time to read, review and vote on the standard. In each of the held votes, we received an overwhelming majority in favour of adopting the newly proposed standard. It also illustrates that democracy prevailed and that the vast majority of Kuvasz breeders and owners in Canada were supportive of this change and are supporting the Executive of the KCC. I would also like to thank my Executive team especially our Club Secretary/Treasurer, Amber Kunz for her tireless work and dedication, especially in getting the word out and encouraging people to vote. Last, but not least a HUGE THANK YOU to the Former KCC President, Steve Hounsell, who provided continued support, advice and was instrumental in making this happen.

Moving forward, I will be spearheading a Judge’s Education Program in conjunction with the CKC so that judges as well as interested breeders and enthusiasts can easier interpret the new standard.

This is a happy day for us in a time of overwhelming negativity and uncertainty. Thank you and please stay safe, take care of your loved ones and hopefully this virus will subside, and we can host our planned Club events.

Krisztian Vas

President of the Kuvasz Club of Canada
